Produces dark black lentils slightly smaller than other lentil varieties. A staple of Indian cuisine (Daal), these Indian black lentils do well in cooler temps and can be planted after the last frost of spring in soil with good drainage. A relative of peas, black lentils grow in pods containing one or more lentils per pod. Harvest when pods rattle, but before they start to split. For sprouts, pre-soak for 6 to 8 hours and rinse several times daily. Sprouts are ready in 2 to 3 days.
